We welcome Brad Shenk as our new police chief. Brad served over 28 years with the Lancaster Bureau of Police. During his career in Lancaster, Brad worked as a patrol officer, field training officer, neighborhood policing officer, detective and sergeant. During his final 6 years with the Bureau, he served as a lieutenant, 1 year with the Criminal Investigation Division and 5 years as a patrol lieutenant (Platoon OIC). Immediately upon retirement from the city, Brad took on a role as a part-time police officer in Pequea Township, primarily providing coverage to the township on an as needed basis, handling general patrol duties, calls for service, and extra support for special operations. About 2 years ago, he accepted a part-time patrol officer assignment with Quarryville Borough, providing shift coverage and extra coverage as needed.
Brad has been involved in emergency services since his teen years. He is a life member of New Danville Fire Co., serving in various capacities over the years, and soon completing his 20th year as fire chief. Prior to becoming involved in law enforcement, he volunteered as an EMT with several EMS organizations in the area.
Outside of work, Brad enjoys hunting for deer and turkey, shooting handguns, and tending to his home garden (he said his green beans did great this year, and he’s hoping for a bountiful crop of strawberries next Spring). A favorite getaway is an old cabin in Juniata County that he has been going to since he was a small child. Brad and his family attend Central Manor Church in Manor Township, where he serves on the safety team.
Brad and his family live in nearby Pequea Township. His wife of almost 28 years, Kimberly, works as a medical assistant at a family practice office. Brad and Kim have two daughters. Hannah is a kindergarten teacher right here in town at Quarryville Elementary, and Caroline works on a local farm, primarily caring for horses, as she has been working to build her photography and editing business.
Brad looks forward to the opportunity to meet and work with Borough residents and businesses, and to continue working with the great team that is already in place within the police department, public works department and the Borough office. When you see Brad out on the road, feel free to say hello.
